My sweet friend, Abigail, once said that "the truth of a passion always rings true in a soul, even when it hasn't been discovered yet." I feel that is so true, especially when I think about how Summer Suzette Couture came to be.
Although I've always enjoyed making things, I had never really considered owning my own business. I always thought I would be a professional with a career, a working Mom, and that's exactly who I was until one event happened to change the entire course of my life and who I was and what I would become. My Mom died and so did the old me.
I was adopted when I was 13 months old by two of the most wonderful parents that a girl could ever wish for. My adoption story is one that I am very proud of. Adoption has blessed my life in ways that words cannot accurately describe and I am who I am because of my parent's love. I even named my business Summer Suzette because that was my original birth name.
When my Mom died unexpectedly in 2004, I was a working Mom with two small girls and I couldn't bear to put them in daycare since they were so used to my Mom keeping them while I worked. I also had my third little girl in 2006. After awhile, I began to get a little restless. I loved being home with the girls, but I needed something challenging, fun, and creative that was just for me.....something I could call my own and be proud of. That's how Summer Suzette Couture was born.
A good friend of mine opened a bakery here in our town, with a craft boutique inside where local Moms could sell things that they enjoyed making. She suggested that I make things to sell in her boutique. That was the first time I had considered owning my own business, and I wanted to do it right, so I applied for a sales tax permit, registered my business name, and started making things for her boutique.
It was a wonderful feeling to create things and have people really like them. It was during this time that I discovered that I really had a passion for girly and baby things! My friend ended up having to close her boutique, but I didn't want to let go of my little business, so I got my website set up and started thinking about what I really wanted Summer Suzette to represent.
It was during that time that I also began blogging, and I discovered this whole world of strong, Christian women who knew God in ways that I had only dreamed of before. I had always had a relationship with the Lord, but getting over my Mom's death had been a long, depressing struggle that led to all of the negative consequences that come from grieving for way too long. I knew that God had bigger plans for me than that, and I needed to truly feel His presence in my life. I longed to know the truth that all of these women seemed to know. I wanted my life to reflect God's love in such a way that others would want to know Him too. So, I asked my sweet blogging friends to please pray for me. And they did.
Since that day, my life has changed in ways that I cannot even describe! I learned that when you truly live for the Lord, and because of the Lord's love, it opens up a whole new meaning to the word "living". I am truly blessed to live the life that I do. I am happily married, with 3 precious daughters, and a business that I hope to make successful. My biggest hope for Summer Suzette Couture is that it will be a Christian-based business that brings glory to God. One of my favorite ways to do that is by supporting different causes that the Lord places upon my heart. I believe that was the Lord's purpose all along for Summer Suzette Couture.
I often joke around that I'm just a Mom who likes to make things! When I first thought about going online with my business, I had the idea that I had to pretend that there were lots of professional people working behind the scenes to make Summer Suzette Couture what it is. I have since decided that there is no need to pretend that I'm something I am not. I am just a regular, Southern girl, who likes to make pretty things for girls. My goal is to make boutique quality products without charging outrageous boutique prices! After all, us Moms on limited budgets want our girls to look precious too, right?!
I am committed to making professional quality products that are always unique and one-of-a-kind. All of the products in my boutique are ready to be shipped, so you never have to worry about waiting several weeks for your special item. All of my prices also include shipping charges. Purchasing Summer Suzette Couture products also means that you have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the people whose causes I support. These causes are always featured on my home page so that you can read about them and know that even the smallest donation makes a difference when it's given with love through Christ!
Thank you so much for getting to know a little bit more about how Summer Suzette Couture came to be. If you would like to follow along on my journey, come on over and say "Hi!" at my personal blog:
